Caroline: Overview of Prinzessinnengarten
Princessinnengarten was on an area of wasteland in Berlin where the soil was not useable. The idea was to take a wasteland and turn it into something the community can use. There has been a lot of gentrification in the area and there are community clashes from the various demographics. The idea was to make a self-sustaining system that offers space for communiities to meet their needs eg: exploring the clashes. The activites are growing food, emoiwerment of neighbourhood, local and social business, seed bank, how do they sustain themselves - aspect of making money, sustainable development. Neighbourhood kids can explore how to build, ggrow, do things themselves. How can we do something togethter weas teh next step. 
Is it forever? In the beginning it was meant to be temporary. Seed beds for eg are portable, pinoeer use - what are the implications and consequences of a temporary use - t’s gentrification, raising price of the land, the system will kick you out once you add quality to the space. After 2 years it began to occur. 
In the 60s there was a plan to put a highway throught the middle of town. Is waht we’re doing now something that you can look back at and think was good? In terms of urban land grabbing we use this term to clarify that the land of the city is taken away and sold to private companues and not available any more bt a lot of people are not aware of that. Raising awareness of what is going on - privatisation of land - happening in private. 2012, the 3 yr contract was running out and the city wanted to sell the land. We started and online campaign to get people to undertstand what was happening which was a huge effort as well as lonying for a longer contract for the piece of land. we wanted a future for the garden itself as a space, to engage the citizens of the city ot know what was going on and we wanted to contribute to an idea of Berlin set out by the mayor as beautiful and wild. The project was widely know n as it was one of the first presentable projects in the area, 200,000 visitors per year it became an attraction int he city. it was a poster idea for the mayor but he didn’t want to support its contibution.
The campaign succeeded and the local district mayor supported it and they got a 5 year contract until 2018, The efforts that weput in the campaign were combined efforts but since hte campaign ended the collective of the garden has split up: gardeners, coordinators and supporting knowledge transfer / networks of consultancy, there’s a split within the community around it. Broken stewardship.

There is a difference between government officials and elected people. They don't do the same thing, have the same tools, work in the same places. From an elected official you are getting ideological support for what's going on, they can't distribute money directly - they can issue press releases in your favour, get momentum around the project. If it's your idea the government can't go in and change it, they are not meant to execute their own leadership. A lot of ppl don't take sufficient time to make sure that parliaments know what they need to do.
I would like to underline that many of us also have in mind changing behaviours - behavioural changes have been in the mind and we don't always share the same view about that. What I give you are some features. In order to retain what I've learned I need to put into boxes. 
2 typologies:
1)  the generatory process - an endogenously produced stewardship - the awareness arises within the community eg: UK allotments. Or it is exogenous - this is extremely different and is called for when the internal process is stuck. When that is the case there is a methodological issue - expectations, time - it cannot be too temporary, and common sense, stewards coming from outside have to appeal to common sense, because the issue is that the state isn't taking care of something - this is obviously not strong enough from within and so it must appeal to common sense
Overall takeaways. Synthesizing Robin's ideas about  recreating vs  creating something new. In many cases, it is better to try setting it free. As Amelia says, there is the option of interfacing with the legislature, so you don't have to be the frustrated open-source developer trying to recreate the whole world. You might be able to just set it free, or modify it in the interests of the citizens.
Many policy issues are hidden, because we can't recognize them as such. Instead we use work arounds. Open-source is a workaround for stuff that is not free at the moment, indicating there is a policy issue with what we try to replace. 
Unresolved question: the importance of platforms (e.g. internet platforms). Even if they are participatory, the platform itself is centralized. there is a big problem, that platforms tend to be created by powerful agents, not by the community. So they serve the platform, not the community. Idea of a union of peers -- that brings us back to union vs platform owners, like the old union vs employer.
I see through the lens of someone deeply involved in the beginnings of a community. It's getting there. The long-term in terms of stewardship of people I drew something from something Fabrizio said that has to do with knowledge and skill transfer and building. the key to communiites to steward physical or digital assets is the ability to steward and transmit knowledge to each other. Partly that's documentation, partly it's knowing each other - resilience comes from redundance and enough ppl knowing about other people so that the right ppl are in touch with each other. this is how w'eve been organising things on the platform. the way it's organised is someone asks a questions and someone who knows points you in the right direction, maybe there's a value in everything not being visible and explicit and it's in the relationships - potential way to creating more privacy. social relationships are dense and we can find what we want without it being available to ppl we dont' want it to be visible to. eg: mapping acitivist networks, managing info that's out there about ourselves and others. Maybe we need to meet more often.

INGRESS: Maktmissbruk och korruptionskultur är en röta som börjar uppifrån. Dan Eliassons beslut att radera miljontals e-brev från Försäkringskassan, som var viktiga för utredningar om korruption och nepotism på myndigheten är mycket allvarligt och borde sätta stopp för hans fortsatta karriär. Man kan inte samtidigt stödja datalagring av alla  svenskars samtliga privata interaktioner över telefonnätet, och  samtidigt neka internutredare tillgång till myndigheternas interaktioner.
TEXT: Dataskydd.NET har lämnat in en JO-anmälan mot Dan Eliasson och Försäkringskassan. Vi förväntar oss att det resulterar i allvarlig kritik mot vad som verkar vara ett systematiskt eftersättande av möjlighet till granskning och insyn i myndigheternas verksamhet från statligt håll. JO har redan 2009 kritiserat bland annat en kommundirektör i Örnsköldsvik för att ha raderat e-post som ett sätt att undvika granskning. Varför Försäkringskassan inte upplever sig behöva följa samma regler som kommunerna är oklart, men Försäkringskassans dåliga ledarskap utgör en konkret risk för att uppföljning och insikt i beslut även på lokal nivå blir lidande.
Maktmissbrukar  och korruptionskultur är en röta som börjar uppifrån. Signalen man skickar från regeringen är att den som går emot JO, är den som blir en  framgångsrik myndighetschef i Sverige. Effekten är alltså den motsatta  mot det man rimligtvis tänkt sig när man etablerat en granskningsinstans  för myndigheterna.
Här finns också en plågsam påminnelse om en dubbelmoral som verkar leda statens arbete. Den svenska datalagringen drabbar alla medborgare, urskiljningslöst, oavsett om dessa är misstänkta för att ha begått någon straffbar handling eller inte. Den vänder på oskuldspresumptionen: vi, som medborgare, är skyldiga tills vi bevisat motsatsen.
För  myndigheter verkar en annan princip gälla – de kan vara föremål för  utredning, kanske till och med etablerat skyldiga till felaktigt  beteende, men behöver inte granskas eftersom sådan granskning enligt Eliasson skullevara ”rättsosäker”.
Antigen är den nya rikspolischefen dålig som inte respekterar lagen och däremed olämplig som chef för en myndighet som ska upprätthålla lagen, med mandat att utsätta medborgarna för våld om så krävs.
Eller så ska man tolka nya rikspolischefens agerande som ett tecken på att lagen är dålig eftersom inte den går att respektera utan att bryta mot viktiga principer. Regeringen sätter både medborgare och institutioner i en mycket svår sits genom en dåligt utformad lag om datalagring som vi redan vet är oförenlig med respekt för de mänskliga rättigheterna.
Om lagen varken tjänar svenska medborgare eller myndigheter, är det legitimt att fråga vilka intressen det är som regeringen gynnar genom en sådan lag och varför.
Principfasta  lokalpolitiker gör bäst i att sparka uppåt i den här frågan.  Myndighetschefer som etablerar sådan praxis bör inte få gå vidare till  nästa toppuppdrag, utan att någon höjer rösten. Lång och känd kritik  från JO verkar inte vara tillräckligt för att myndigheterna på statlig  nivå ska skärpa sig - det krävs politiskt ledarskap som värdesätter  moral och konsekvens.
Det  är vår mening att bara enkla sanktionsmöjligheter inte är tillräckligt.  Politiska makthavare har så pass mycket inflytande över våra liv, att  vi också måste kunna kräva att de hanterar sitt ledarskap på ett  ansvarstagande sätt. Att befodra Dan Eliasson efter hans ageranden på  Försäkringskassan var inte ett sådant ansvarstagande.
